Adjusting volume causes Windows Explorer to freeze Tech Support

Adjusting volume causes Windows Explorer to freeze

Hello all,

An issue that I continue to encounter is one that involves the volume controls on my laptop.
Every now and then, when I attempt to adjust the volume of my computer, Windows Explorer will freeze.
When I attempt to click on the explorer bar, I am informed
that "Windows has stopped working", and I am given the option of restarting it, closing it, or waiting for it to respond.
I can close or restart it and the bar will unfreeze, but any time I attempt to adjust the volume after this first occurrence will result
in another freeze.
Adjusting the volume by the physical volume knob on my laptop or the virtual volume mixer will produce the same result.

Here are some specs...

Software:  Windows 7 home premium (32-bit)
Hardware: Toshiba Satellite A205-S4577

This is an issue that occurs erratically, but tends to happen more frequently when the laptop is unplugged.

Can anyone provide any advice?

Thank you, Pranav-

I actually received a response from Windows Technical Support earlier and it solved the issue!

In this case, they advised that I:

First, back up all files.

Next, do a quick virus scan to search for threats.
A few should be ok, but 10 or more is an issue.

Then, do a system file scan to search for any system files that may be corrupted.
The scan will detect and repair them.
 To do so:
Open an elevated command prompt.
To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
If you
are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow

And that solved it for me!

Open Action Center by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, and then, under System and Security, clicking Review your computer's status.

Update and run your antivirus software. Windows doesn't come with antivirus software, but Action Center can often monitor the antivirus software that you or your computer manufacturer have installed.
